Starting point of the excursion

The Museum of Nature of the state natural reserve “Khakassky” was founded on the 19thof February, 2009. An excursion starts with the description of the geographical situation of the reserve in the Republic of Khakasia. Thereto an interactive map of the republic was created, where the reserve’s sections are highlighted with light indicators of different colors. In the “General Information” sector the visitors can become familiar with the history of foundation of the Reserve, its goals and objectives.

Then you will learn about 9 sections of the Reserve. The “Sections of the Reserve” sector shows the variety of the landscapes, soils, flora and fauna. Except the information stands, the visual aids are present: a herbarium, collection of minerals, insects, specimen of sculls, fells of animals, fossils and archeological finds.

The excursion goes on with the story about the water-marsh lands and the Red Book. The “Red Book” sector includes the information about the definition of the Red Book, what kinds of Red Books are there around the world, the dates of edition of different regional Red Books. You can see some kinds of the regional Red Books in this sector. The excursion continues and the visitors can see the next sector that is about the recluse Agafia Lykova, who lives on the territory of the Reserve. Besides the huge (6×3 meters) banner, depicting the views of the “The Lykovs Squatting” section, the natural exposition illustrating this part of taiga is represented here. The visitors can also look at the meal shop for saving the food – a diminished copy of the authentic meal shop, built by the Lykovs. The informational stand is supplemented with some visual aids – the Agafia’s personal things, her letters and photos.

The next sector is called the “Sections of the Reserve”. It is about the work of the reserve’s staff. There are photos, illustrating the current work of the protection department, scientific and ecological enlightenment departments. The visual aids let the visitors get to know the main instruments and equipment, which is used by the reserve’s staff in their work. The excursion concludes with the “Threats of the Reserve” sector. The visitors can see the news items and photos, illustrating the poaching, fires and rubbish. These are the most serious threats to the prosperity of flora and fauna of the Reserve. Except these stands the visitors can see the poacher’s gears.

The Museum is oriented to the different kinds of audience – the residents of the republic , school children, students, Russian and foreign tourists.
